ep70 starlet rear disc conversion pt.2

0206image000

Floor was not level, may be a bit inaccurate.

0206image001

Both arms shorten by 81mm

0206image002

Getting the hub on properly, each caliper mount takes four bolts (overkill, imo) one side needed a little work the other is fecked so another day ill get em in there.

0206image003

Look like it’s in the right place this time!

0206image004

Standard panhard rod should mount here..

0206image005

..but i want it up here, need to shorten the linkage.

0206image006

Technically it is possible to run it like this.

0206image008

Only 2″ of ground clearance.

0206image009

I’d like to place the point higher but this is as far as it goes.

0206image010

Shortened the panhard rod by 8cm, made a kinda Z cut and shut job to give it strength.

0206image011

After some measuring (!) i have it welded in place and painted up.

0206image012

Complete! (brakes are another story)

0206image013

Looking good! again some other day i will raise the body mount point for the panhard rod. Possibly after i find out the car crab’s like crazy every where. Adjustable panhard rod anyone?

ep70 starlet rear disc conversion.

Right, not getting that Carina, so can’t go changing the engine just yet, want to try and get it done before the 24th of this month but any way though I’d try and get a the rear disc’s on the car once and for all.

You can’t just throw on the hubs and discs from the turbo, the axle/stub is the wrong size, you may be able to find new bearing’s with the right size inner race but i didn’t have the money and i wanted to cut something up!

Before i starting i knew i had to reposition the panhard rod mount over to the other side of the suspension, there just in opposite places from each other on the ep80 and ep70.

0202image000

Clever me decided to make sure the whole thing fitted with my 13″ wheels. They did by the way.

0202image001

Panhard rod there in front of the rear axle, attached to the car on the left.

0202image002

ep80 axle, panhard rod connector thingie on the left.

0202image003

At this point i measured nearly everything ,axles length, bolt hole sizes, bushing spacing, arm width the lot.

0202image004

looks like about an inch extra width, i can live with that.

0202image005

ep70 rear axle for the chop

0202image006

CHOP!

0202image007

Some profiling will have to be done to get the stub on the axle, I want it a bit higher to raise the roll center and thus the roll resistance. but as high as I want it and it will clout the chassis so this will do.

0202image008

It was all going great until this point. the one thing i didn’t measure was the arm length! both ep70 and 80 have the same wheelbase how stupid of me for assuming that the arm were the same length. Nearly chopped out the rear arch’s and turned it into a high rise off roading apoc car.

0202image009

Then it feckin snowed. bumhats.

0202image010

At this point i should have given up and either found the right type of axle or spent the money on new bearing to fit a ep70 axle. But sod it if i hadn’t spent the day writing out this plan and measuring everything and doing calculations and shite. Bastard was going on the car.

0202image011

At least this weld turned out nice, I’ve spent to much time playing with our mig, arc welding is nice,

By the way as it turns out i needed to have the rear arm shortened by 79mm between the snow and moving indoors I had done it by 81mm, tomorrow i have to do the other arm and get it the right place vertically as well. Assuming i can get out there on my bike in the snow.

gl5 TGB delivery, and the cbr6

so i found out the tgb’s engine is a gl5. which means nothing. it’s probably a suzuki/morini engine so i ordered the part form a new zealand place, when it gets here i want it done soon, need the money.

Sticker nicked from sarges house. he’s never gonna own anything fast anyway.

got an f3 pipe for free, no dents in it or anything.

don’t fit though.

I think i see the problem..

cleaned my bike with a four star shirt ๐Ÿ™‚ it was a really nice day weather wise

bugged front tire you’ll note, changed that later but it was too dark for photos then.

gsxr wheel fits onto cbr6 spindle and has a speedo drive unlike a cbr6 f3 wheel. problem is I don’t have a gsxr speedo drive either ….

rg125 wheel feels it loss

and inadequacy

and size.

The money shot, i love gunmetal grey.

I have about 3 rg125 front wheels and discs, so i think i will put them on the gsxr wheel, being slightly smaller will help with fitting. or maybe i won’t fit them at all, i don’t really need it but it looks sooo gooood!

what else?

the starlet engine swap will be started some because i will have to drive a carina around for a while, and while the starlet is sitting idle it will be the best time to surprise it. especially since it broke down twice last sunday ๐Ÿ˜€

My first motovational poster!

and there was more bags to go in! go here for original if you feel like have a go.

Nikki’s intruder is finished,

had to change battery, rectifier, choke cable, seat lock and fix the light switch and spent ages trying to fish the choke plunger out of the carb. The above pic features the seat lock as it is attached to a suzuki rg80. There are three rg80’s in that pictures and the one i wanted was at the bottom. When we were done off we went no proper test drive or nothing, of course it wouldn’t start after we stopped for petrol. sigh.

more bike work, no job now!

No more pizza delivering! got fired last thursday morning, blasted internal politics, so looks like it will be foxers for a while just like my dad back in the 80’s. Also i have no excuse to not finish off some of my projects ๐Ÿ™‚

I also got 6 new rags to clean my bike with, I’m sure I had seven of them just can’t find the last one..

Niki’s bike got some work done on it yesterday, procured another rectifier with the wrong connectors bit of poking and splicing made it fit nicely. So nicely it started to charge! but the battery was so dead it still wouldn’t run right, so off to ross’s to locate a second hand about to be thrown out battery and rescued it, had enough in it to make the bike behave. Starting and charging now sorted have to fix the headlights the choke and the intermittent indicators along with a few other things I’ve forgotten.

Note the wires are now much more tidy.

One of the many positive things about not delivering pizza is that i can now go a bit mad with my bike ๐Ÿ™‚ only lowered the handlebars right now, but such a big change in the cornering attitude! i love it, can wait until summer and dry roads. Pity it looks ugly with 3″ of spare fork leg poking out the top ๐Ÿ™ still function over form. I should make a list of things i like about being unemployed but it would be too long. i can’t think of a really solid negative, no free pizza’s might be one but then again pizzas are bad for you. Moneys not really a problem, money is time and I’ve got loads of time.

Playing around with a hopelessly slow laptop last night, found debris linux, based on ubuntu but with out the bloat it should be great, will be trying it out later.

Not much done again

Went out and confirmed that niki’s intruder125 does not charge, that took most of the morning, then i fixed the chain and put oil in the gn125 he was borrowing off me in between heavy rail and hail showers.

lovely home made electrical connections! no wonder I’m charging รขโ€šยฌ100 for this job. Seriously they are solder together so we shall check the rectifier/regulator first.

The Brothers girlfriends car failed the NCT on rear bush’s. Just ask Sean they are a bastard to get out.

Winter sucks.

Garage very cold, took pictures of cat instead.

Trying to get out of my job at the moment, never knew it was this hard to get fired. Not sure what to do afterwards the though of being self employed again cheers me up and the though of stress again does not.

Found out the i can insure a piaggio ape in ireland!, but it seems it must be commercial ploicy, hmm not so, future includes a multi bike and trike policy? post apoc trike, perfect for trips to the shops, parking and killing zombies.

Been on the ikcc, seems that i might get way with regestering a trike as a bike if it is under 400kg. can’t make a 400kg 8.7liter v8 trike with iron girders for zombie protection so i’ll have to be a bit high tech.

Duttons rock! cheap enough to so that vrt is not really a problem and so many fundametal design problems to fix!

have a piaggio ape vid

watch?v=T8EUJean814

saw this down in cobh, sarges bike club place, don’t have a link i’m afraid, want the leading link front end would do nicely on a trike..

quickie

the engine and frame would not fit so i had to make a second trip.

cbf400 stainless system, might make a nice turbo manifold for the cbr6.

red wheel is from a kawasaki, purple wheel from suzuki, grey one from the burnt out cbf400. suzuki front wheel fits onto cbr6 front spindle but one of the disks is bent should have enough rgv125 spares to fix that. may be used in combonation with the cbr250 calipers, which has much bigger pads, to make a proper stopping f2 cbr6.

new disks new pads and a new right fork leg. clean it? feck off.

Monday

Didn’t do my usual stuff and won’t be either, still a bit sick from xmas.

got myself a new cbr600 as a birthday present for myself.

Yeah its in a million bits. cheap tho’. (this is not the cbr i bought, i can’t get the pics off my phone, think i dropped my bluetooth dongle to many times :-(ร‚ย  )

then went karting afterwards, all my muscles are completely shot now, wii + pukes + go karts = ow

Tuesday, some time back.

I been so busy i have forgotten what the hell i have done and what i meant to put up on the blog, loads of thing I’m sure.

Found these pic then remembered, some dick forgot to put two-stroke oil in the 4-star tgb delvery bike. boom 600miles only, no way to treat a bike.

stripped it down, hopeful the knock was some other thing that fell off.

pizza box’s other use.

at this point i had exhausted all other possibilities.

debris mashed into head. no decent pic but the big end bearing was very mashed, very surprised it ran at all.

7 pointed hex (which means six btw) exhaust bolt and a std 8mill, down at the other end, 5 sided allen key bolt. fuck me up the arse with a jack hammer what were these shitheads thinking?

A nice pic of my gravel drive..

Also bought another cbr600, 35000 miles and quite clean for รขโ€šยฌ700, only problem is it’s scattered in a million little box’s. the 700 did not include the box’s, trike it turbo it trackday it, depends on how much is there when i get my hands on it.
