CBR600 magnolia
Decided that there was too much blank magnolia on the tank, so in that accidental red/black/magnolia scheme that occured on the back of the bike, I did this to it.
Masking and first coat
Near the end there, bit more petrol resistant lacquer needed.
Threw this back together, while waiting for paint to dry, just to wheel it down the back while I find parts
Bolted back together, left it in a warm place overnight, paint should be hard enough tomorrow. Masking tape bleed a bit but I’m happy, this bike will never look good up close.
Jago jeep/geep/sandero (think I’ll come up with my own name for it) needs the roll bar chopped off, which means a complete blank start for the new cage/chassis.
Jago Jeep, tub nearly off.
Made a big hole in the floor for the rollcage to come through when we lift the tub
Loads of brute force but no way was it moving, will need to lift the body quite high now to get it over the bar. Got the rear part of the cage out at this stage.
wood batons for people to hold onto when the lift comes.
Got more clearance with some of the weight out, think I’ll just leave it until I drive it, then if there is not enough up-travel I’ll chop about the rails to give it more, floors shall be unboltable which’ll make life easyier.
Tub moved back away from front cage.
All that didn’t take all day so I tried to put on the new body work on the cbr, I forgot the key for the new tank and that was the end of that.
black + red rear suit it.
Rust coming out from the water based paint, it too plain anyway so some strips maybe are called for.
Jago jeep, more stripping.
Taking apart is the fun bit, everyone wants to help, hope it go’s back together just as swift.
Broken spring, aka excuse to upgrade.
Roof off, all hands on deck for that.
Rollcage however was quite stuck, new rollcage will be probably be fully welded in.
Hot day today, cool cider needed.
Jago Jeep, strip down pt1.
Shoveling all the shite out only took one wheel barrow and a bucket’s load.
added another floor and parked the starlet there, must do the mains for that soon.
mostly cleaned out, x-flow in the wheelbarrow now, banged on the steering wheel, had to file off some damaged splines on the shaft, only needs a big nut now.
I hope that’s an m16
Focus wheels on temporarily, also a handy chock to stop it moving about.
Chrome looks good!
Reverse mounting the wellers make it look quite nice actually.
Would need a longer studs a spacer and some head scratching about the tapers for the nuts.
first wing off!
I like it
Nose off
Focus wheels both on rear now, Note the rear of the roll cage is mounted to the fibreglass, Won’t be that way for long I tells ya.
Hard as..
Really tempted to see if it’s possible to drive like this, maybe flat fenders in black?
The more i look the worse this thing is put together, I think the steering stem is off to one side, the rollcage is a joke, the chassis a bit of a banana (although they were all like that)Â it’s a curious mix of bolt on things that should have been welded and welded stuff that should have been bolted, and it’s all quite rusty. Big shopping list comeing some, needs new brakes all round for a start. The seats! they were bolted to the wooden floor at the front and then at the rear just rested on the mid rear chassis x-member.
The plan now is just get the body off and then make the shoping list, probably gonna spend lots at rallydesign.co.uk
Stuff
Recommissioned this for a friend of my dads, bloody Teflon cables were all shagged.
Made a start on the starlets rear brakes, still seized, little tear in the rubber dust seal held water in there and its a rusty mess, maybe I should forget about it concentrate on the engine and let the new owner sort that out?
Nrg fork bending.
Got it a bit straighter, but then the stem got a little bent, it’s very tough, too tough, so I’ll have to find new forks some where.
Then I got up on the roof and nicked it..
.. to turn it into my new garage floor, the jeep will be here Friday! keep thinking about engines for it, I forget I’ve already decided to put a bmw 316 (probably an m40) in it and find my self looking at 4age to t9 gearbox bellhousing’s. Not that I would actually use a 4age, probably a late 4afe, much cheaper and nearly as fast, downdraft inlet just like a proper engine.
Buy that jago!
15×10 inch wheels, 1600 pinto might be from a rs1600 mexico, but i really doubt it, gota check if it has an alloy sump when i go to pick it up next week. They also had a 1600 xflow for sale too with 4-1 exhasut and apparently rally tuned only €150 so even if’s it got less power then the pinto (yeah rite) it’ll go faster because it weighs 100 kilo less!
Much work ahead which would normally excite me, but i still have to wade through the paperwork, gotta sort tax book, join a vintage club and sort insurance.
With those wheels and a 3.77 axle it’ll do 144mph. or 72 in second.
Rednex – Cotton Eye Joe and this thing = WIN
Recycling a NRG 50
The neighbours crashed nrg50, was talking to nadia the other day, said she wanted a little bike to get around on and didn’t care what it looked like.
Short?
Only a bit bent!
Sean’s back from his hols in Canada.
Sarges Yamaha neo’s head light and front plastic bit screwed on. look at the back front leg.
Just a bit bent!
Made a bottom bracket to hold on the headlight, done.
Started her up first of all and it sounded quiet and sweet, idled like a dream even drove it a bit, couldn’t turn right and had no front brake but it worked great with some air in the tyres. To be honest it’s a lot of work for a fairly crap bike, might just break it up, use the tyres and front wheel on my runner and try and ebay the engine, there is probably better bikes out there for nadia, maybe i could just teach sarah how to ride on this thing?
My 100th post is a bit boreing, ya?
Gilera runner 180, Gearbox Cover
Knocked this up 30mins, only a piece of bent aluminium plate, took me 20mins just to find the right bolts, drilled the first hole then with the screw in it to center the compass I scratched out an arc where the second hole should be (set the compass to the width by installing both bolts), same again for the third hole but with two arcs to get it really accurate.
Needs to be a bit more cut down.
