Gilera runner 180, Gearbox Cover

Knocked this up 30mins, only a piece of bent aluminium plate, took me 20mins just to find the right bolts, drilled the first hole then with the screw in it to center the compass I scratched out an arc where the second hole should be (set the compass to the width by installing both bolts), same again for the third hole but with two arcs to get it really accurate.
Needs to be a bit more cut down.
Gilera Runer 180, kickstart mod
Before:

After:

Previously I had chopped the center stand to allow me to start the bike with out having to haul it up onto the stand, and now that I’m using the kick start more I notice that it’s awkward, I’d like it closer to me while I stand there twisting the throttle and kicking, can’t do that so I chopped and welded it further around the shaft bringing it a bit higher and closer, not a bad job I’d say. we’ll see if it make a massive difference in the morning. Also I painted it black you may notice.
The auto choke, I noticed how much more crisp the throttle seems off the bottom end now, I can only summarize that it came on every time the bike was at idle, you see the battery I have is quite shagged and I’m to tight to buy a new one, so the voltage at idle is not high enough to turn the auto choke off, Haven’t used a tank of petrol yet hope I can get 160k out of a tank now.
Jago Jeep, no go :(

In the light of a nice day, there was no way I was gonna buy this, imperial mk1 escort gear, drum front brakes, water in the gear box, engine open to the air, and it looks like the whole front end was in the sea. while I have the ability to fix this up good, I don’t have a nice flat place to rebuild the chassis, so even though he only wanted €250, i couldn’t take it, I’d (for once) rather spend more and get an example that needs less done.
So I’m on the look out for another GRP bodied car, lots of dutton’s meet my criteria, not a lot of em in Ireland though, scimitar ss1? scimitar gts? tvr? gonna pm a guy in Laois who might have a jago jeep, if not then im gonna have to go to england.
Gilera Runner 180, auto choke fix
Auto choke on my phvb 20.5 carb, since I’m mostly doing short journeys right now, the auto choke is really ruining the fuel economy. I’m the type that worry’s about how much fuel cost’s. I’m also so tight I won’t pay for a manual choke kit.

Step one take it apart, Two chop a bit off the end of the spring, Three assemble as shown and, Four disconnect the wiring(temp sender one too). No more fecking auto choke. It’ll all go wrong in the morning (easystart to the rescue!)

Saved the original auto-choke and the temp sender just in case I need to put it all back, I only chopped up the bit from the spare runner.
Good news! got a free transalp 600! only killed two people! thanks pavel!
Good news! the price for the jago has gone down to 250, apparently the chassis in front of the struts is fecked! didn’t need that bit anyway!
Good news! theres no bad news at all! just wait abit though….
XTDR 250, sacrificial mount

Cleaned up the engine a bit, found out that the lateral vibration bar mount is cracked in the cases, I have a good case but I’ll probably try some epoxy glue first.

The sacrificial mount, this thing will allow the engine to be bolted to the frame is such a way that i can move it left and right to get the chain alignment right and raise it to make the squat(chain run) in the right place without having to worry about the engine or the frame being vertical.

Bit of bending was necessary, them fecker’s bent it to fit the 3vx frame.

Slapped in the rear swingarm to check for clearance, looks like the mount will have to come back by about 3cm, the kick start should still clear the peg, but the gear change will have to have a linkage, no direct shift. Had to stop here for the day gotta find out who owns this xt before choping it up.
The rear mount will be made by putting a tube on the swingarm bolt (it used to go through the engine) then welding bar’s up to the upper engine mount and down to the subframe, subframe will probably be fully welded in.
XT350 with TZR250 engine, TDR250X?
While steve’s idea for a rg125/tzr250 hybrid is a good idea, it would be just another sports bike to me, and i have plenty thanks.

Took ages to drag this out, then choco turned up and we got it in the garage in seconds.

Welded on right footpeg caused a bit of a bother with getting the swingarm bolt out. also one of the engine bolts was stripped, took ages to get it out.

Tee pieces stuck right on, this is just before a quick clean up.

Should have cleaned the tzr too.

Not too bad looks like with some extra hose the xt aitbox might fit onto the engine.

Just thrown together, the front of the frame need to go up by quite a bit and the engine is not very level.

Other xt, probalby in a bit better condition then the one i’m working on, many parts shall be swapped.

This is a tdr250, with a more off road aspect, I quite like it, reminds me of a dakar bike, won’t find any tdr’s for my kinda cheap anyway and I might as well recycle the xt350, make good out of waste and all that. Besides the xt is a rugged tall and slim design, more off road then a tdr which is what you need on Irish back roads.
Just gotta txt, the jago jeep with be up at the weekend 😀
TZR250 into a 125 frame.
Fixed the headlights on the car, it was only the bulbs in the end, no idea why both went at the same time really. Only an exhaust a calliper and the hazard lights to be fixed.

Did we need that bit?

IKT frame plonked on top of the engine to keep it out the way, I am missing a load of bits to make this thing a runner, so Steve G suggested I put the engine in the rg125…..
and it’s damn good idea. I did squeeze a rd400 engine in there before and that engine is a lot longer then the (completely no realation) tzr250 engine, also the sale of the tzr bits might fund the buying of a tsr125 rolling chassis, so i’d have a home for the rg125 engine, it would be my wheelie machine.
TZR 2ma/1kt rebuild
Had to finalely take all my tzr bits back off steve g, shouldn’t have left them there for so long, anyway onto the new project!

This is a 1kt frame that been attacked by a “stylist” knob head. there’s more parts out of frame to the right.

More parts, sold the 3xv frame to ted, he’s gonna put the dr750 engine into it.

Much cursing.

More cursing.

whole fucking extra bunch more fucking cursing of all farmers who think them selves engineer’s. Wasn’t even anyone around to hear me cursing, it was that bad.(1kt engine in3xv frame, not good)

Much sweat was spilt to get this far.

Not as much as was to change these four tyres and paint four wheels, fuck that was hard work. Gonna try and pass an NCT so needed tyres with thread.
ep70 starlet, 4ef engine conversion. Done.

Tip for getting a 90 degree cut to a pipe, tape when wrapped around properly will meet up with it self on the other side a make a perfect marker to file down to. Got it welded up and plonked it on the car quite quick, was in a rush, looked like rain.

Made fuel pump bracket out of old exhaust (1E) gasket.

You can see it here in the back round, its crap but it’s a temporary bracket. Also crappy wiring not finished yet. That was all it took, some spining over (thanks to a fat battery from choco) and it fired up, last thing to do was the cam cover bolt that broke, you can just see it left of the distributor.

Took off the cam cover and the one that broke was nothing important unlike the others (which hold down the cam caps) so it went back on with a dab of greas and a new bolt.
Situation right now is that there is a knock from the bottom end, could be anything, hope it’s straight forward what ever the problem is, big ends can be done with engine in situ, fecked up breather pipes are another head scratch.
Forgot to tightten up the carb and do up a few clips, really suprised when there was nothing else wrong and it started 🙂
Jago Geep
Decided to get that Geep, escort parts are cheap and the jago chassis and body are pretty simple rock sold stuff, in the long term i will grow to love it.

Heres a good looking jago, massive wheels are not really to my taste, but tall skinnys could do me. Compared to a willy’s jeep (which the jago is meant to be a copy of) the front axle is way to far behind and the windscreen needs a bit of a lean back

Things you can do with a real jeep:

If i don’t grow to love my jago i can take the escort parts and find some frame to bolt em to, maybe my own kit car? awesome.
Want to find an early 80-86 ford cvh 1.3 engine it’s really short stroke and would sound wonderfull on full chat with a set of bike carbs and two cherry bomb silencers(?) probably not gonna find one though so may have to settle for a 1.6, really would like a 4afe but won’t be able to sort a t50 gearbox so i’m gonna keep it ford, some midrange engine (lots of the 80’s stuff was short stroke) will have enough power to push it along, it only weights mabey 650kg with all the stuff off (roof doors windscreen).
