DI two strokes, A brief history.

The V-Due, mention Direct Injection two stokes and some plonker will mention the V-Due.

Nice bike but the injectors only injected fuel and so it had no time to atomize properly, leading to an utterly crap engine that set back the whole DI two-stroke thing by years in the public’s eye’s.

Aprilia SR50 Di-Tech, been zooming around for years now (2000-)

Using an injector from orbital which combines air and fuel at the nozzle, this set-up actually works! but only up to 10,000rpm after that there is not enough time to inject enough fuel and air in to the cylinder.

Really impressive power from low down.

Ski-Doo 600 e-tec, Injection done right

Using a brand new injector (Voice coil injector) this thing injects at 35BAR solving the time issue with brute force so the engine can rev like a monster and behave like a pussy low down.

The future?

hasn’t even got going yet, the 600 rotax under the new injection system, is made like a boggo old two stroke with it’s carb’d limitation’s for example short stroke two-stroke have terrible short circuiting, injection solves that, allowing more revs and longer piston and ring life, Roller bearings, great for minimal lubrication, but can’t really go past 13,000rpm for long, using shell bearings, situated in the gearbox oil and a sump(?) built around the conrod to scavenge the oil, you could easyly build a 20,000rpm two-stroke. Result? longer flater torque curve, much like a four-stroke.

I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these things.

Runner 180, resurrection.

Crashed it already. Thats not the first time that rack has claimed a bike, out braked and R1 and smashed it’s headlight last year too.

0703Image001

Fake carbon fiber levers i bought years ago and never fitted, cheap horrible things, don’t have brass liner in the pivots like the standard gilera fare.

0703Image002

Only real casualty of being in ditch for 2 years, perished fuel line, thank fuck i didn’t put on all the plastic before i found this leak.

0704Image000

I am positively itching to ride this thing. only two glitches happened, the temp sender fell off the head and the alternator plug (just ahead of the peg in that pic) fell out.

It is so hard to describe the difference between 2 and 4 stroke, I had to take slower back roads while running this engine in (new mains years ago) and the effortless feeling of just coasting along on minimal squirts of throttle makes it feels so torque-ie , limp four stokes need constant throttle to maintain speed. Already i am thinking of how to make a faster one ๐Ÿ˜€

Recipe for disaster.

Ingredients:

big crosser engine,ร‚ย  larger block of aluminium, snow mobile cvt transmisson.

Directions:

chop off crosser gearbox, keep primary drive gears for later. turn engine 180 degree’s and lay it exhaust port down, attach cvt trans to crank end and weld big block of aluminium to left crankcase side. drill holes for rear cvt auto clutch, mount that all up, you will notice that it’s running backwards if you stick a wheel on, so next step is to use the primary drive gears (you did save right?) to make a rear tranmission case.

actually scrap all that, if you mount the cvt onto the the primary gear layshaft (of the crosser) the speed increase will lower the torque going throught the cvt belt, makeing a boggo 180 cvt able to handle the power, need really light rollers though. and probably a new rear gearbox to change the speed of the rear wheel. hmm needs more (salt?) though.

Presentation:

Stuff into any 50cc moped and give the police the finger at every set of lights.

Seening all these trike’s gave me idea’s, i think my spare cbr6 is going to get it, passanger and driver will be set way behind the rear axle to get the COG in the center, we will sit side by side like a car, but a little higher up so it will be styled a bit like and off roader, i have many idea’s must ask the insurance companys how far i can go before it needs an engineers report.

This thing would be quite excellent with a runner 180 engine. but i am confused i don’t see how that diff works (if it is a diff) and if it doesn’t then why the twin disc’s?
0606image001
0606image001

Nice mix of retro and tech, loving the plunger and rear disc brake.
0606image001

The idea of putting the tank low and exposing the engine is great it would be perfect for engine’s that need to be longer to fill the rear frame, like some singles, but not like harley’s, there long enough.

Far too much work gone into this thing.

300 riders, police had to feckin escort it, really bad did not need them there at all,a highly tuned 140cc might break 100kmh (on THOSE roads(you know what i mean)) sun was spliting the stone’s and there we were bunched up behind some guards being told to stop and wait when we did not want to, melting alive while we waited, herded like sheep, who the hell asked them there anyway? going to find a 140cc engine and just pass them next time, we can bearly break the speed limit and are not breaking the law by haveing a ride. and it’s better to just string out rather then bunch up.

(Btw the honda pics are the girlfriends)

The ender. once some prat starts ‘repairing’ rust holes with aluminmum plate and seam sealer it’s never gonna come back from the dead. Sad really if it was just plain rusty steel i could have tried welding it back together.

it might be free but arse to it, it’s only an 88,

0406image003

Lovely deep penetrated welds, quickly ground the excess back and slapped it on to the bike, i has a solid front end now!

Worked on the back end after that, nothing new done just loads of measuring.

Ted made a valid point today, my poor starlet is probably eleiglible for calssic insurance! this means i might spend some money and actually keep this car.

gl5 TGB delivery, and the cbr6

so i found out the tgb’s engine is a gl5. which means nothing. it’s probably a suzuki/morini engine so i ordered the part form a new zealand place, when it gets here i want it done soon, need the money.

Sticker nicked from sarges house. he’s never gonna own anything fast anyway.

got an f3 pipe for free, no dents in it or anything.

don’t fit though.

I think i see the problem..

cleaned my bike with a four star shirt ๐Ÿ™‚ it was a really nice day weather wise

bugged front tire you’ll note, changed that later but it was too dark for photos then.

gsxr wheel fits onto cbr6 spindle and has a speedo drive unlike a cbr6 f3 wheel. problem is I don’t have a gsxr speedo drive either ….

rg125 wheel feels it loss

and inadequacy

and size.

The money shot, i love gunmetal grey.

I have about 3 rg125 front wheels and discs, so i think i will put them on the gsxr wheel, being slightly smaller will help with fitting. or maybe i won’t fit them at all, i don’t really need it but it looks sooo gooood!

what else?

the starlet engine swap will be started some because i will have to drive a carina around for a while, and while the starlet is sitting idle it will be the best time to surprise it. especially since it broke down twice last sunday ๐Ÿ˜€

more bike work, no job now!

No more pizza delivering! got fired last thursday morning, blasted internal politics, so looks like it will be foxers for a while just like my dad back in the 80’s. Also i have no excuse to not finish off some of my projects ๐Ÿ™‚

I also got 6 new rags to clean my bike with, I’m sure I had seven of them just can’t find the last one..

Niki’s bike got some work done on it yesterday, procured another rectifier with the wrong connectors bit of poking and splicing made it fit nicely. So nicely it started to charge! but the battery was so dead it still wouldn’t run right, so off to ross’s to locate a second hand about to be thrown out battery and rescued it, had enough in it to make the bike behave. Starting and charging now sorted have to fix the headlights the choke and the intermittent indicators along with a few other things I’ve forgotten.

Note the wires are now much more tidy.

One of the many positive things about not delivering pizza is that i can now go a bit mad with my bike ๐Ÿ™‚ only lowered the handlebars right now, but such a big change in the cornering attitude! i love it, can wait until summer and dry roads. Pity it looks ugly with 3″ of spare fork leg poking out the top ๐Ÿ™ still function over form. I should make a list of things i like about being unemployed but it would be too long. i can’t think of a really solid negative, no free pizza’s might be one but then again pizzas are bad for you. Moneys not really a problem, money is time and I’ve got loads of time.

Playing around with a hopelessly slow laptop last night, found debris linux, based on ubuntu but with out the bloat it should be great, will be trying it out later.

Winter sucks.

Garage very cold, took pictures of cat instead.

Trying to get out of my job at the moment, never knew it was this hard to get fired. Not sure what to do afterwards the though of being self employed again cheers me up and the though of stress again does not.

Found out the i can insure a piaggio ape in ireland!, but it seems it must be commercial ploicy, hmm not so, future includes a multi bike and trike policy? post apoc trike, perfect for trips to the shops, parking and killing zombies.

Been on the ikcc, seems that i might get way with regestering a trike as a bike if it is under 400kg. can’t make a 400kg 8.7liter v8 trike with iron girders for zombie protection so i’ll have to be a bit high tech.

Duttons rock! cheap enough to so that vrt is not really a problem and so many fundametal design problems to fix!

have a piaggio ape vid

watch?v=T8EUJean814

saw this down in cobh, sarges bike club place, don’t have a link i’m afraid, want the leading link front end would do nicely on a trike..

tues..uh no..wednesday

yeah ya I’m lazy. fucking freezing garage, don’t think I’m eating enough.

started out with changing the jet between the 1e carb and the 4ef carb, main choke was 141 (up from 138) and the other one 103(from 102). not the small choke looks alot smaller on the right lower one? thats the 4ef carb.

Have loads of holes to fill, waaay to many vacuum tubes on a std 4ef.

Had what looked like an air temp sensor sticking out in the air stream. not any more.

Think I’ll put some chemical metal down there to block that hole and improve the flow.

carb on manifold hot action! gah this stupid carb is going in the bin, i’ll fit a 1.75″ SU. note the big shiny screw? that was where the start choke was. i never use it on the 1e and it’s just restricking up the tiny carb.

Been sitting there for over 2 years now..

Note where the top rad hose goes in here? see that casting that has no aperant purpose?

theres a big hole in the 4ef one, for a water temp sensor. it gets in the way of the vacuum advanced distributer.

I think that was the aircon pump. or the power steering pump. fecking heavy what ever it is.

So yeah not much done again, so cold out there. next week i think I’ll cover the cbr in plastic to protect my completely shagged hands. or not. meh. After Christmas gonna put the car on blocks for three days and put in the damn 4ef engine, it’s been over 2 years I’ve gone through loads of sodding garda checkpoints, there not interested in the fact i have no nct. whatever car i get/make next I won’t have that nct problem and cheap tax. Perhaps a post apoc car might draw a bit more attention (that turrent gun is not really very functional, officer) but hey, maybe if i pretend I’m a religious nut (church of post-apoc and survival anyone?) they’ll back off. yeah thrust pamphlets in there faces through the 3/4″ thick plate steel Armour/windows, or maybe pretends it’s an art car? (fakes blood and guts there are sir to be sure!)

So now again, not a morris minor i think, something with a seperate frame (non unibody) and has to be 30 years old to get cheap tax and nct exempt. if the apoc does come those last two things won’t matter. hope it comes quick then.

What The Hell to get?

Pictures Of Minors.

Morris minors of course, why what did you think i meant?

morris minor welded to a nissan 200sx, perfect place for a lexus v8. just realized this car is the only one without a roof chop ๐Ÿ˜€
