Tuk tuk, new frame.
First up a test peice to help me guestimate the angle I need.
Angle turned out to be quite shallow, didn’t figure on the fact that the head stock its self is inclined back.
Quick break to do Frostys brakes and a cv joint boot on his fiesta diesel van. took a pic of this hanger because i wonder if i could fit these calipers to the escort mk2 legs.
And a tack weld later, next week we’ll be sorting two more bits to split into a Y back to a more solid part of the frame and then it’ll be final welding. Sort some brakes and some brake lights and it’s off for a spin 🙂
Taking the handle bars off a tuk tuk.
But first i had to fix nikis puncture.
tyre off the rim because he drove it here like that.
screwed! also the gearbox seal was leaking because a plastic bag got caught up in the chain and wrapped around the shaft, then melted through friction and worked its way into the seal. just took the plastic out it seems ok, not a problem if it isn’t because the it can be replaced with out splitting the cases.
Over to sarges and the tuk tuk is covered in fags. great.
Friction steering damper :) that’s not staying.
Took nearly an hour to do this, to get the cables out the inner had to come out first then the outer had to be pulled the other way, not an easy to work with design but very repairable. The electrics! built like home plugs you have to undo little brass screws and pull out the wires, madness, again great for easy fixing but pain in ass if you can’t remember where which wire went . I just chopped then all off this bike is either getting dash switches or a completely new set of handle bar off a normal moped, this means I’d have to sort a foot gear change and handle bars that had cable brakes. I’ll be able to adjust the brake level up and down then and it’ll be a million times less complicated and lighter, and proper dog leg levers. On the other hand the standard bar setup does work and its all aluminium which mean i  could polish it up..
Niki’s dogs.
Niki said he needed a hand getting the head off his bike.
He mixed up the rocker cover with the head so there was allot to do really and not enough time to do it in, the coolant pipes leading into the head were stuck so we squished them.
Surprise a pristine engine, could have eaten dinner off it, this bodes well for the future.
Niki’s dog however would eat his dinner off your face, i got him to stop moving just long enough to take this photo with a chocolate bar. Be warned there will be more cute dogs on this blog because I’ve volunteered for the CSPCA, waves hand slowly “you want to give these doggies a home, even the snarling frothing one-eyed pit fighter” /jedi mind trick
Bloody tyres
Simplest thing to change some tyres, apart from the massive physical effort that is involved. The tyre hadn’t seated right so it had to come off, it was obvious the rim needed a wire brushing to clean the cack off, seated quite nicely after that but by then i had stabbed myself in the hand. I hate tyre changes.
Difficult part done, now onto the ignition problems.
Knowing what’s behind you.
A mirror is a useful thing sometimes, i got spoiled by the busa’s massively effective garda spotters.
So i had to put one one the cbr, can’t put one on the right side because i’d have to change the master cylinder, but however i do have this broken clutch perch lying around which got glued back together and left in the sun in a spare car and over the weekend hardened up quite nicely, splash of paint and it was ready.
Of course i don’t actually have a proper mirror, that would be breaking the rules if all my work accomplished something for once.
My e52 nokia is dead, won’t start, so i had to dig out the nokia 6233, where i found this pic of the insides of my new laptop, totally choked up with dust and loose metal bits rattling around, quick clean and i was away.
Hayabusa 0 cbr6 1
Went for a spin on the busa wednesday, hand nearly exploded all four fingers still hurt to move, no more busa riding it’s gotta go.
On the plus side the cbr6 is still good, added a bit of weld to the right passenger foot peg to level it out a bit, put a bit more oil in it (filter is still leaking a bit) and when i discovered last night that the lights were pointing way up (haven’t actually driven in the dark in a long time) i chopped a wedge of metal out of the headlamp bracket and re welded that too, just have to wait till it’s dark to test it out.
Also a while back i re-soldered my 8-cell stick battery pack to make it fit in the tt-01’s 6-cell space, haven’t actually played with it since but it should be a lot faster then the old 800mah 8-cell pack. That is of course providing that the solder will stay in place, don’t have a very powerful solder gun.
cr125 service
Not much done over the last week, was sick now i’m better but i still haven’t done much 🙂
This cr125 would cut out after a while, no spark, so changing the windings and while we at it new tyres and control levers a general clean and poke and it’ll be out the door eventually.
tt-01 semi-rally
Bits arrived this week for my tt-01, first up was the wheels, disappointed that they need to have the tyres glued on but no biggy, gotta find the time to paint em soon. Then i did the shocks they are ta-05 shocks and came with fine 3mm threaded stuff that didn’t really suit the plastic tt-01 still I battled on and found some long self threading screws with out shanks for the bottom of the shocks and then used 3mm bar at the top set deep into the plastic to mount the upper ball joint. Haven’t tested it yet but it should be good only weak point is the upper mount and if they fail it’s just some 3mm bar and eight 3mm nuts to create a really strong solution.
Also got a turnbuckle tie-rod set for the steering tamiya stuff really nice, some day now I’ll mod the chassis for a little bit more articulation get the handling more scale, shocks aren’t long enough for an out right rally car so I’ll just stick to tarmac rallying.
Bloody gilera can’t even bloody sit there bloody quietly with out some bloody thing breaking. fecking!!!
Right now I’m servicing this thing, oil in the frame had me stumped for a minute when only 500ml’s of oil came out of the engine 🙂
The honda 50 challenge battle scars, ted still made it around the ring of kerry despite the petrol tank (which doubles as a seat) cracking and letting out quite a lot of petrol and ruining the paintwork.
Also I’ve been playing with the busa’s suspension found out the standard setting and it’s still wasn’t right… then I got a manual from carlslater.com, I had the compression and rebound adjusters the wrong way around, DOH!
XTDR250, rear mounts done.
Inner mount tack welded in.
Outer mount weled up beatifully.
Then it went a bit wrong, welded the inner mount outside in the bright sun and it was a fine weld just a bit tow much to the mount side rather then in the middle.
Outer mount bolted in with two m8’s, this is so we can take the engine in and out with the solid subframe.
Inner mount all welded back again properly, lot’s of heat went into it so it bent a tiny bit. worried that it was bent all over the place so i chucked the engine into the frame to check alignment.
Held up the front with rope and lo! the chain run was fine 😀
standard tzr250 pipes are not gonna work
Not a lotta space for a high up rad. low rad will catch a lotta crap from the front wheel.
Looks like it could wheely away forever.
XTDR250, rear mount.
Looking at tdr pics on the net, I should have loads of space for tdr250 pipes, only concern is the width of the frame near the stingers.
Bought a new m10 drill bit, old one was extremely worn and got started on the rear engine mounts.
One down, will weld this in on Thursday.
Second one half done, making this one a bolt in job because i decided to weld in the subframe and needed the clearance to get the engine out again in the future.
