the yearly update…

Just under a year since the last update, gotta find an easier way to post here,

anyway here’s a request, yes thats the rxs100/ysr50 back there, no it’s not coming out.

during lockdown i remember to take short spins every night for my mental health. New fav is this dt175mx, lots to do, probably never do it tho!

shed clear out

After rearrange, started work again on the rg.

Expensive, but now the shed (near 5 years since i bought it) has power, got a armoured cable, ethernet, separate breaker switch and this lovely light switch installed!

Really got to get back into this again, but projects are at an all time slow with life and other boring stuff happening.

Back to the darkside.

Some Rg125 bits first, the stock four pot is a great caliper, but pretty heavy, measure against another four pot i had lying around.

So lets upgrade to the two pot sliding caliper! ok that make little sense, but lightness comes first when you have can’t have more power.

This drain nozzle on the bottom of the airbox is the only part of the bike that hits the s1000rr shock. specifically the rubber tube thats attached to this.

Since the depth is fine i just heated it with as heat gun and slowly squished it shut.

Next i started to take a look at mounting the top fairing, stock head lamp cage hit the brake lever, looking into ways of remaking the whole lot out of aluminium.

So enough of the crap piles, my two new bikes are a freshly restored DT175MX..

..and yet another cbr6! gah actually this is only a loaner, couldn’t stand the gb400 any more so although i know i should not go back, i went back, the darkside has tight suspension and shiny bodywork.

carbs needed a little clean from sitting so long, i had the seat/side panels/tank/airbox and carbs off quicker then my dad re installing the dt175 rear wheel, he didn’t know it was a race but a win is a win.

Bling!

So very distracting.

tiny bit of noise off of the camchain tensioner, i think my old cbr6 had a different shape, may change over.

Got those blind holes tapped with the help of a snapped tap, very happy to see it on, less happy when i realised i hadn’t taken note of the timing marks..

Bench cleaned for the new head, gotta copy the porting over from the race head since that was so wildly successful.

Complete head cost รขโ€šยฌ16, will those valves stand the abuse?

Cub 90 head work

Bought tools, this’ll help with foul-strokes.

speaking of the buggers, dissembled the c70 head.

Lovely isn’t it?

ports not touch much, i wonldn’t have shaped it like that

scrub scrub

polish polish, why? bored i suppose, now i have a head that could be used in a pinch.

removed the flywheel and future supercharge bracket, it’s possible my previous issues might be coil related, as the coils were off a lifan, and this engine is a zongshen.

borrowed the c70 IRK

all stop, have to gather some tools and some courage to tap these. please don’t hole the cases!

can you tell what my next bike maybe?

i consider this head a minor upgrade, the stock head and very offset plug and bowl.

tired of four stokes, so back to the rg125! deep breath, measure once and cut!

Repeat after me, angle grinder is a precision tool.

Looks good from that angle.

Fit’s here too.

bit wide here, but nothing is perfect.

Rust is lighter than carbon fiber.

rg125 on hold

I like cooking alot, but my knifes selection left alot to be desired, so i made a better one!

polished up nicely with some 1200 grit, already feel the urge to get a 2000 whetstone from amazon.

Rg125 raditor, considering my options, do really want an upgrade.

Everything stops when the music isn’t right, poked the wires and we were back on track.

Beat that straight

this bit needed more finesse, less hammer

a selection of tidied painted and bought bits

Helper number one fitted it all up!

And now the rg is on hold because this cub90 is now in the shed, gotta run it in on the new years day run and lots of other bits need completing before race day.

Don’t say nice things about my bike

Making the attempt to do weekly updates, i feel i’m missing notes with large drops.

Got that tab moved forward 30mm, a little too far, but it’s ok the welds are shit, no penetration with sticks for sheet metal ๐Ÿ™‚

After i said nice things the other day about the cbr6, fecking clutch cable broke, this is off a bros 400, inner is too long so this temporary mess was done just to get me moving.

probably stay like that all year now

the netbook, the 88cc and the rg125

So first a little update on the netbook situation, bought a dell 2120, super cheapo, didn’t realize they came in single core models..

upgrade time!

Whole motherboard upgrade,

*eyes wwan port* pci-e ssd?

failing purple msi wind gave up its ram and ssd to my new chunk top.

Anyways back to the fun stuff, clutch carb, and rev counter installed.

They don’t work, but they are installed..

Check out the rubbing from the carbon fiber pipe on the shock ๐Ÿ™‚

new old pipe is the best pipe ever.

springs installed to keep choke from closing accidentally, and the throttle from accidentally staying open ๐Ÿ˜€

Ford bits installed!

These will be where i install the rear sets, next week probably, no mig wire!

Pump and switches for runner 180 water pump mod.

Onto the Rg125, gs500 37mm forks fitted up quite nicely, they are a ton lighter and 0.59kg/mm springs seem to suit it

lock stops, steering lock, everything perfect.

Top yoke is ugly, but what are you gonna do?

Whole thing is sitting a bit high, we’ll fix that.

gs500 wheel is drop in replacement, if you needed to keep the stock gsxr forks.

Disc is a 320mm vs 310 and the speedo drive is a smaller outer diameter

Replaced the lower bearings with ebay specials, no rubber seal, unlikely to do so many miles i’ll need that. Dogbones need extending to lower the back about 3cm according to my calculations

extended 6mm, or at least i planned to, actually got 5mm, best i could do with a angle grinder and a stick welder.

Dropped fork 50mm, threw on the clipons i bought, i bought 38mm clipons cause i’m an idiot, rushed to buy them, nothing an angle grinder and some filing couldn’t fix. I like the radial master cylinder.

Onto some plastics mock up.

Fitting the under tray and some of the electrical loom

Probably gonna have to tidy that, quite heavy too!

Big gaps, need to move tail piece forward 30mm

2T oil tank i don’t think will fit under the plastics, thinking of making a tank and putting where the batter lived.

Moved forward here,

Much tidier, gotta weld it up next time i’m out there.

And also my cbr was sick!, ran rough as feck, very close to happily dumping it in the spares pile (already on DoneDeal looking at other bikes) but then we found the blanking plug for number three vacuum port, fallen off an sitting in the vee behind the cylinders… pop’dร‚ย  it back on and the cbr’s butt was saved again for another day.

slap that 88cc together

Went with boring paint in the end, figured everything else is a bit mad, so tone it down.

Needs second coat and lacquer asap, but didn’t turn out that bad considering how much i hate paint prep

Order a very cheap radial master cylinder, wasn’t really surprised when i saw this shitty casting, at least only on the clamp part, the body seems ok. i hope.

VJ21 race fairings, strangely modded road ones, was expecting much more straight forward molds, ejit store sent me a smoked screen after i asked for a plain one. sigh. still rg125 ought to look much slimmer with these clothes on.

Race 88cc, in one piece now, gy6 88cc piston installed, used a 107cc head, of the two i had the 107 had better castings and i have a lumpy long cam for it, head with the smaller chamber used a shorter cam so i gave up on that.

very direct tillotson carb, should work great!

That is of course if i can get the valves to seat.

after some lapping there are still not so good, but alright for testing purposes!

new piston is much bigger then the stock 50(right), and has a lot more compression then a stock 107 (left)

perfect deck height.

107 head on right, you can make out the combustion chamber size difference, plus the extra cooling fins.

some Runner 180 info, gotta build up an electric pump kit, toyota prius inverter pumps are perfect, but finding a switch to turn it on is not cheap, so i’ll probably settle for a switch.

uprate the cbr6 brakes, eventaully.

Rg125f boring paint

Skyteam Ace 125, suspension upgraded via some spacers, 16mm worth.

Easy to get forks out

While it was out, banged on the disc a few times to straighten it, poor thing is a little over worked.

On to the Rg125F, stripped rear shock, we have a

295mm length (c to c), 30mm fork at bottom, 30mm eye on top. m10 bolts.
160mm coil length on shock, 9.9mm diameter metal, 5.5coil 2 dead coils. 70mm outer diameter
175mm length off shock, one end is little smaller, last coil so not calculating that.
closed and ground spring

using an online calculator thats a 8.0kg/mm spring, 2010-13 s1000r shock with lots of cutting of frame is a cheap upgrade, spring is only 8.2 to 8.4, so a little stiffer, but not too much. have to get my hand on one.

Vj21 rear seat (left) vs Rg125F seat, rg125f is fat fuck.

so i had a vj21 in shed, do the plastics fit?

No, but i’m not gonna let that stop me from fitting some, such slimness!

Paint rear swingarm

More painting

Playing with fitment,

ร‚ย

Repairs

Stick welding ftw?

I should do these updates more often

Well lets be having them updates!

Rg125f first, box of clean bits, the box of dirty bits is quite large..

painted the top yoke a few times. i should not be allowed paint.

filled the dents in the spare tank i got, it’s still low, but IDGAF

Hammerite paint job, laid it on a bit thick and forgot to use a roller so it’s terrible. gotta flat it back and do it better. not properly but better.

Forgot about this, happened a long time back, belted it round with a large hammer, took a photo but i dropped the camera and knocked the battery out as it was writing it. promise i’ll get one next time.

Head, badly in need of modernization, if there is enough meat we can do an angled squish and a bathtub chamber. if not i’ll buy an insert, make a steel cage and 3d print to hold the water in.

Next!

Lifan monster 120, advertised as a 125 (insert joke about penis size)

we have a 27mm inlet valve on this so an appropriate carb is needed. mikuni DBS28, cheaper to buy a bank of four then one.

ah didn’t need that hi comp piston

is that a rice grain in my engine?

Beautiful

On to the Wifeys Dax.

engine was ripped out for new race engine.

what cruel bastards restrict a 50cc four stroke? this is the second washer we found…

Frame repair.

new chain and sprockers, bit oh cleaning of the wheel too.

de badged! and a new engine, 86cc single speed out of a childs quad.

a spin reveals that a straight pipe 8000+rpm doing 50kmh is not all that much fun.

Stickys!

also much taller, should help with gearing.

that exhaust pipe is dangerous to small birds and single pane windows.

need a pipe, stock is fine, but it have a cat in it and is too short for the new taller engine. chop! grind booger welds, insert rusty crap pipe.

looked well. no idea how it sounds, we still have to fix the loom, it eats cdi boxes, probably the tank rubbed a short into the loom.

Misc:

New race head, actually has a 52mm combustion chamber. huge head off a vintage thingy for scale.

got the arcade cabinet looking tidy, ditched the fancy router and did it manually.

more t-moulding

stickys for my dads skyteam ace 125, stock is so bad.

when you go on hols, take a ferry, and discover an arcade where your mate Stephen Casey has been.

Got a vice! had to clean the paint off the runners under neath before it slid smoothly.

rebuilt my numbpad for the acade, lots of trimming this bit down to get the case to close properly, then glued to the face of the cabinet, works great! can’t decide what buttons do what in the config yet..

rg125f engine destruction

Tis grand! bit of diesel and off we go!

lol nein. got other projects that need attention first, then we’ll spend a bunch and fix that engine right up. and tune it of course.

so the really really boring part

yep cleaning and sanding and filling and organizing my spanners. I’M NOT OLD OK!? just had an off day, it was raining.

I did mount the old rg tank at least, like a trophy. ๐Ÿ™‚

slinging a SBC like my 8 core odroid into it will be easy, but it’ll need slinky heavy metal hoses to house various cables, gotta have the look right.
