rg125 on hold

I like cooking alot, but my knifes selection left alot to be desired, so i made a better one!

polished up nicely with some 1200 grit, already feel the urge to get a 2000 whetstone from amazon.

Rg125 raditor, considering my options, do really want an upgrade.

Everything stops when the music isn’t right, poked the wires and we were back on track.

Beat that straight

this bit needed more finesse, less hammer

a selection of tidied painted and bought bits

Helper number one fitted it all up!

And now the rg is on hold because this cub90 is now in the shed, gotta run it in on the new years day run and lots of other bits need completing before race day.

the netbook, the 88cc and the rg125

So first a little update on the netbook situation, bought a dell 2120, super cheapo, didn’t realize they came in single core models..

upgrade time!

Whole motherboard upgrade,

*eyes wwan port* pci-e ssd?

failing purple msi wind gave up its ram and ssd to my new chunk top.

Anyways back to the fun stuff, clutch carb, and rev counter installed.

They don’t work, but they are installed..

Check out the rubbing from the carbon fiber pipe on the shock 🙂

new old pipe is the best pipe ever.

springs installed to keep choke from closing accidentally, and the throttle from accidentally staying open 😀

Ford bits installed!

These will be where i install the rear sets, next week probably, no mig wire!

Pump and switches for runner 180 water pump mod.

Onto the Rg125, gs500 37mm forks fitted up quite nicely, they are a ton lighter and 0.59kg/mm springs seem to suit it

lock stops, steering lock, everything perfect.

Top yoke is ugly, but what are you gonna do?

Whole thing is sitting a bit high, we’ll fix that.

gs500 wheel is drop in replacement, if you needed to keep the stock gsxr forks.

Disc is a 320mm vs 310 and the speedo drive is a smaller outer diameter

Replaced the lower bearings with ebay specials, no rubber seal, unlikely to do so many miles i’ll need that. Dogbones need extending to lower the back about 3cm according to my calculations

extended 6mm, or at least i planned to, actually got 5mm, best i could do with a angle grinder and a stick welder.

Dropped fork 50mm, threw on the clipons i bought, i bought 38mm clipons cause i’m an idiot, rushed to buy them, nothing an angle grinder and some filing couldn’t fix. I like the radial master cylinder.

Onto some plastics mock up.

Fitting the under tray and some of the electrical loom

Probably gonna have to tidy that, quite heavy too!

Big gaps, need to move tail piece forward 30mm

2T oil tank i don’t think will fit under the plastics, thinking of making a tank and putting where the batter lived.

Moved forward here,

Much tidier, gotta weld it up next time i’m out there.

And also my cbr was sick!, ran rough as feck, very close to happily dumping it in the spares pile (already on DoneDeal looking at other bikes) but then we found the blanking plug for number three vacuum port, fallen off an sitting in the vee behind the cylinders… pop’d  it back on and the cbr’s butt was saved again for another day.

88cc engine swap

Cleaned new engine, a bit, didn’t actually put any effort in.

86cc racer looking resplendent in battle scar red and rust.

last race at watergrasshill saw this tab for the leg shield break off, wouldn’t be a problem normally except i can’t find the tab. Have to make another.

built this in 2014, it’s done well to be fair, sold now to my dads team who’ll slap a smaller class restricted carb on it and attempt to win the stock class.

Engine vibes? i knew the engine was very vibey, my first though was loose engine bolts, now i know it was a loose engine bolt!

Tillostson looks purposeful.

Plate that some of the previous electronics were mounted on, it fell off a year or two ago and was just rattling around under the tank, finally gone. Can still see the melted plastic from this bikes previous life as a bonfire.

Stihl 090 90° elbow on the way, gotta flow it a bit and attache a filter. also the throttle cable, i’m just ignoring that huge ass pain for now..

More Runner 180 water pump woes, not sure if i want to leave the impeller behind when i switch to electric pump.

Splitting cases isn’t that hard i suppose.

slap that 88cc together

Went with boring paint in the end, figured everything else is a bit mad, so tone it down.

Needs second coat and lacquer asap, but didn’t turn out that bad considering how much i hate paint prep

Order a very cheap radial master cylinder, wasn’t really surprised when i saw this shitty casting, at least only on the clamp part, the body seems ok. i hope.

VJ21 race fairings, strangely modded road ones, was expecting much more straight forward molds, ejit store sent me a smoked screen after i asked for a plain one. sigh. still rg125 ought to look much slimmer with these clothes on.

Race 88cc, in one piece now, gy6 88cc piston installed, used a 107cc head, of the two i had the 107 had better castings and i have a lumpy long cam for it, head with the smaller chamber used a shorter cam so i gave up on that.

very direct tillotson carb, should work great!

That is of course if i can get the valves to seat.

after some lapping there are still not so good, but alright for testing purposes!

new piston is much bigger then the stock 50(right), and has a lot more compression then a stock 107 (left)

perfect deck height.

107 head on right, you can make out the combustion chamber size difference, plus the extra cooling fins.

some Runner 180 info, gotta build up an electric pump kit, toyota prius inverter pumps are perfect, but finding a switch to turn it on is not cheap, so i’ll probably settle for a switch.

uprate the cbr6 brakes, eventaully.

I should do these updates more often

Well lets be having them updates!

Rg125f first, box of clean bits, the box of dirty bits is quite large..

painted the top yoke a few times. i should not be allowed paint.

filled the dents in the spare tank i got, it’s still low, but IDGAF

Hammerite paint job, laid it on a bit thick and forgot to use a roller so it’s terrible. gotta flat it back and do it better. not properly but better.

Forgot about this, happened a long time back, belted it round with a large hammer, took a photo but i dropped the camera and knocked the battery out as it was writing it. promise i’ll get one next time.

Head, badly in need of modernization, if there is enough meat we can do an angled squish and a bathtub chamber. if not i’ll buy an insert, make a steel cage and 3d print to hold the water in.

Next!

Lifan monster 120, advertised as a 125 (insert joke about penis size)

we have a 27mm inlet valve on this so an appropriate carb is needed. mikuni DBS28, cheaper to buy a bank of four then one.

ah didn’t need that hi comp piston

is that a rice grain in my engine?

Beautiful

On to the Wifeys Dax.

engine was ripped out for new race engine.

what cruel bastards restrict a 50cc four stroke? this is the second washer we found…

Frame repair.

new chain and sprockers, bit oh cleaning of the wheel too.

de badged! and a new engine, 86cc single speed out of a childs quad.

a spin reveals that a straight pipe 8000+rpm doing 50kmh is not all that much fun.

Stickys!

also much taller, should help with gearing.

that exhaust pipe is dangerous to small birds and single pane windows.

need a pipe, stock is fine, but it have a cat in it and is too short for the new taller engine. chop! grind booger welds, insert rusty crap pipe.

looked well. no idea how it sounds, we still have to fix the loom, it eats cdi boxes, probably the tank rubbed a short into the loom.

Misc:

New race head, actually has a 52mm combustion chamber. huge head off a vintage thingy for scale.

got the arcade cabinet looking tidy, ditched the fancy router and did it manually.

more t-moulding

stickys for my dads skyteam ace 125, stock is so bad.

when you go on hols, take a ferry, and discover an arcade where your mate Stephen Casey has been.

Got a vice! had to clean the paint off the runners under neath before it slid smoothly.

rebuilt my numbpad for the acade, lots of trimming this bit down to get the case to close properly, then glued to the face of the cabinet, works great! can’t decide what buttons do what in the config yet..

nifty fifty 2018

New years day run 2018:

Like the colours, if it makes other people go what?! i’m down for it.

Want to race this guy, but he said the rain plays hell with the traction so he went home 🙁

68 years old and getting used, top class.

Race c90 back after test run, taller rear tire is a tiny bit more unstable, but grip was fantastic.

Oh look, my fecking cbr6 ain’t charging again.

also found that the plugs are getting a bit fouled from short runs to work, gotta change those, so i bought this to help:

knew that spare frame would come in handy!

getting nearer race day! lightening program is making progress..

Fitted temp gauge because i was hoping i had blown something, but no it’s fine damn it.

attempting to get someone elses race transponder charged

Final though before nifty fifty 2018?

Race Day!

Well first thing that went wrong was a burst water main, Thomas Maxwell could not make it, but he had a friend that could take his place so. ok then. Paul has ktm dirt bike is half my age and never been at a tarmac race… this was the night before the race as i sat in the car driving up to dublin..

Three people on our team myself colin and paul, we can still split up the race between us, have seen my bike do 1h30m of racing before so decided i’d go out for an hour and thirty minutes, you’re never sure how long the race will be and paul didn’t have any experience.

went out for 1h27m, ran out of petrol but still made it to the pits with out stopping, loads of bouncing about trying to slosh fuel into carb. Had huge battle with team manly, some fella name cody nally? never heard of him, he kept up ok. i was third in class as i pitted, absolutely buggered,  knees and shoulders wouldn’t work right for days after, footpegs so far forward made hopping about alot of physical work. the straight bars wrecked my right wrist as well.

ABR moto/Driving miss daisy/Funky Junkys had alot more power, past me going at least 5k quicker, ABR/BMD are both english teams so they had 107cc engines i’m sure. in plop enduro racing you have to keep the 19mm carb, no such restrictions over here so they were bored passing everyone.
Colin went backwards unfortunately, new guy paul rock kept us in place and was steadily improving when the flag dropped.

6th in class, 9th overall 1:26.160 77.298kmh
teds team finished one lap behind us! on a stock 70!
dry race, tyres fantastic, i would have been well into the 1.25 if i had not changed the gearing combo down to 36 tooth rear and not taken into account the taller rear tyre also stretching the gearing.

ABR moto Driving miss daisy / Funky Junkys had alot more power, but they couldn’t take a corner to save there lives, next year will be the year of the my 89.3cc BBK! Seriously next year is Win or i’m bringing a two stroke to nifty fifty 2020

Best 86cc bike out there, A Fish Called Honda

and one week later we were all balls deep in snow.

Back to normal,Fucking cbr.

Other things that happened

Oh whats this for?

🙂

But never mind that, time for a spin!

Tasty noise

Bought a new bike! only new bike ever, yet to drive it, stock is too slow!

Race bike got it’s tyres, it started too. Ready To Race.

Fixed my shaver charger, “fixed”

Flat battery,

Fecked rectifier

Soldered all in again top job.

15 years plus that stone has been in my knee, so nice to have it gone.

naughty

Dog has a help out spot, but only when the weather is nice.

Runner is dead, wibbly handling isn’t as fun when you have no one to race!

Engine will live again in a decent go kart frame

Got that front end on!

feck it these clocks weight tons! steering loads lighter, that may have to do with different trail figures and the lighter wheel

Very cracked

shed upgrade!

TerriCab #2

Well more stuff done. Stuck some plastic feet on, a chopped up chopping board, on the base of the cab and got it upright with out breaking anything!

The comp is ready ish to go in, still playing with wake-on-lan

Super sticky tyres from japan for next years nifty fifty, bt-39-ss, the ss is the important bit!

Got a real keyboard, replaceable cap and switches, metal case, blinky leds, but more importantly really loud blue switches!

2016 nifty fifty

Racing prep time flew by, loads to do and most of it got done! z40 cam was this years big upgrade, lift is the same as the z28, doesn’t take a very practised eye to see the huge amount of extra duration.

IMG_20160130_114425 IMG_20160130_114451

got it in and for safety’s sake measured the squish and clearance, 1mm for the inlet valve and 2mm for the piston, a yawning chasm but safe.

IMG_20160130_142138

New cam really fecked up the jetting , very rich in the middle and it took ages to clear out and get on the main, lifting the needle clip and fiddling with the air screw got us pretty close.

IMG_20160131_162203

Frankly, a pz22 is not a very sophisticated carb, I had ordered a 95 main jet in a panic just in case. (yeah can’t find the box of jets i got last year, kept somewhere really safe)

IMG_20160131_162252

Exhaust! the nice one got donated to another bike while it was off mine, couldn’t use a nice low slung exhaust like that on the paddy dakar. so this piece of crap was installed. and then broken, engine ran like crap with it and it sounded rubbish, so in an attempt to fix that punching a hole through the baffles lead to the whole thing collapsing. good.

IMG_20160204_124300

Borrowed this one to setup the jetting and get some miles on the new cam, actually probably the best one on paper, leaked all over the place.

IMG_20160204_151153

So i made this one out of the previous chinese 50 pipe, shortened the large collar that slips into the head so we could bolt it on with more then a few thread on the head studs, then welded the collar on properly, no more leaks! cut the rear silencer off but left the face to act as a flange to bolt the rattyist rs125 silencer on. sounds perfect, and only a small bit on the short side of my calcs!

IMG_20160209_160521

See that chinese kickstart? that made all the difference, the stock 90 kicker sticks out a mile to avoid the pipe and once you’ve shortened the peg to avoid highsides your ankle is at a right bollox of an angle. Serious distracting pain in an hour long stint. Never thought about it all race day, job done.

race day fitness prep!

IMG_20160203_194438

jet arrives, didn’t even contemplate changing it, way too late!

IMG_20160211_193213

Race morning in a nice warm B&B, weather very dull.

IMG_20160213_080408

got all the paper work sorted, weather still not actually raining.

IMG_20160213_093225 IMG_20160213_134822

Missed the warm up due to an anti doping talk some of us had to take.. also i’m not sure which way the V for victory sign is.

image-b359c9b07bf2d1c022bdd261ab066196382646aaaa075f5920c24fb08227d810-V image-79b9950be646325d98bb985879e309acdeccdf4e88df55a5e12cc56bacff1823-V

team 48, they got last years pipe and our paint job. because red and black paint is what we had.

image-18ea6c71b12fcd26c8ac8d7ebaf2b43aaa9d2046a662628c0e63681b1fb523a2-V

Do I look fat in this?

12695014_1712290332341653_2057127828114244347_o

Race! just off screen, last place guy looping it, many lolz

12698543_473135309537697_7987662124155798097_o

wet track, slowly does it, keep going.

12698279_1712292355674784_4195347872688140270_o

Doing well, in top 10 over all, laptimes around the 1:36, anyone who past me was either super talented, or plain just fell off in front of me, there was a lot of falling off going on.

12698262_1712293665674653_5879485718241856919_o

I lasted 21 laps before the engine died as far away from the pitlane entrance as you could get, the back entrance was closed due to some talentless ejits have a drift day there. So i ran up the field, sprinted across the track, bounced through some ruts, sprinted across the track again, dragged my sorry ass trough a very long gravel trap, then leisurely walked up the hill into the pits, no bothers. after i stopped coughing my lungs out and hour and a half later i thought “crossfit-tards pay for this” and vocally told everyone.

We did fix the bike a whole hour later, the igniter box had fallen down between the engine and the frame and pulled a shitty scotch lock type connector job loose! it’s not much fun trying to fix a bike while asphyxiated and wearing tight leathers, but some people pay for that too.

12717804_1712294352341251_5159310519538680550_n

Alex went out next, and did a sterling job of not falling off. no wait he did, but that did improve the right hand ground clearance, Braham went and and out and the track was drying nicely now, so no more excitement then. Stephen managed to get into his skinny leathers this year and went out to pull off 1:30’s all the rest of the session with a best of 1:28.889, we were still no where on the timing sheets, thought we might have an extra 20 min left at the end of the session since there was two red flags during out time in the pits, so in he came and out i went. For three whole laps. Still, my last lap of the race i got a 1:30.043 which is a whole 0.641 better then my best whoop whoop!

image-7a9041ecf263ca9305b52c7f52edc40959030d48db82de5740e101cddaceba5e-V

Post race faces! 39th over all but we won a pot noodle, the real winners fecked off in a hump, I snatched the prize. it’s on the mantle place now.

looking at the speeds we could have come 3rd in class right behind the two english teams,so no breakdowns next year! also maybe some sticker tyres.

12670297_1224444400902997_1385859064596236946_n IMG_20160213_155010

Team cider came second in class! the winner was obviously an 86cc, so ted’s had enough and next year it’ll up a class to stock 90 i believe.

IMG_20160213_170454

oh dear…

IMG_20160213_161411

try to do stuff

managed to go on the new years day run, feeling wrecked from the meds, so i took the cbr, i was still wet next week it rained so hard. next year i’ll be on the c90, no excuses.

IMG_20160101_114305

Bored in the house with all he ice and rain, fixed up a door lock, fascinating.

IMG_20160110_105444

some ejit threw all this out, sky+HD box gave up a nice 3.5″ 500GB harddrive, sata cable, ata to sata power adapter, a neet little heatsink. the cheap drill worked perfect the battery fits my einhell charger. haven’t found a 12 brick to power the netlink router yet, i have a desktop PSU that would do it but i’d have to chop up a working brick to get the right connector, i’ll get it done later.

IMG_20160109_120122

Today i actually made myself get out, figured it was time to service the car.

IMG_20160120_104531

Only 2-3 years late. could park a bus in the spark plug gap. and yep the filter was fecked, i know this car is shit but you’ve gotta give it some credit for not dying on unfiltered oil.

IMG_20160120_111612

yes we got another lathe. no we still haven’t got the other one working…
