nifty fifty 2018

New years day run 2018:

Like the colours, if it makes other people go what?! i’m down for it.

Want to race this guy, but he said the rain plays hell with the traction so he went home ๐Ÿ™

68 years old and getting used, top class.

Race c90 back after test run, taller rear tire is a tiny bit more unstable, but grip was fantastic.

Oh look, my fecking cbr6 ain’t charging again.

also found that the plugs are getting a bit fouled from short runs to work, gotta change those, so i bought this to help:

knew that spare frame would come in handy!

getting nearer race day! lightening program is making progress..

Fitted temp gauge because i was hoping i had blown something, but no it’s fine damn it.

attempting to get someone elses race transponder charged

Final though before nifty fifty 2018?

Race Day!

Well first thing that went wrong was a burst water main, Thomas Maxwell could not make it, but he had a friend that could take his place so. ok then. Paul has ktm dirt bike is half my age and never been at a tarmac race… this was the night before the race as i sat in the car driving up to dublin..

Three people on our team myself colin and paul, we can still split up the race between us, have seen my bike do 1h30m of racing before so decided i’d go out for an hour and thirty minutes, you’re never sure how long the race will be and paul didn’t have any experience.

went out for 1h27m, ran out of petrol but still made it to the pits with out stopping, loads of bouncing about trying to slosh fuel into carb. Had huge battle with team manly, some fella name cody nally? never heard of him, he kept up ok. i was third in class as i pitted, absolutely buggered,ร‚ย  knees and shoulders wouldn’t work right for days after, footpegs so far forward made hopping about alot of physical work. the straight bars wrecked my right wrist as well.

ABR moto/Driving miss daisy/Funky Junkys had alot more power, past me going at least 5k quicker, ABR/BMD are both english teams so they had 107cc engines i’m sure. in plop enduro racing you have to keep the 19mm carb, no such restrictions over here so they were bored passing everyone.
Colin went backwards unfortunately, new guy paul rock kept us in place and was steadily improving when the flag dropped.

6th in class, 9th overall 1:26.160 77.298kmh
teds team finished one lap behind us! on a stock 70!
dry race, tyres fantastic, i would have been well into the 1.25 if i had not changed the gearing combo down to 36 tooth rear and not taken into account the taller rear tyre also stretching the gearing.

ABR moto Driving miss daisy / Funky Junkys had alot more power, but they couldn’t take a corner to save there lives, next year will be the year of the my 89.3cc BBK! Seriously next year is Win or i’m bringing a two stroke to nifty fifty 2020

Best 86cc bike out there, A Fish Called Honda

and one week later we were all balls deep in snow.

Back to normal,Fucking cbr.

rg125f engine destruction

Tis grand! bit of diesel and off we go!

lol nein. got other projects that need attention first, then we’ll spend a bunch and fix that engine right up. and tune it of course.

so the really really boring part

yep cleaning and sanding and filling and organizing my spanners. I’M NOT OLD OK!? just had an off day, it was raining.

I did mount the old rg tank at least, like a trophy. ๐Ÿ™‚

slinging a SBC like my 8 core odroid into it will be easy, but it’ll need slinky heavy metal hoses to house various cables, gotta have the look right.

Other things that happened

Oh whats this for?

๐Ÿ™‚

But never mind that, time for a spin!

Tasty noise

Bought a new bike! only new bike ever, yet to drive it, stock is too slow!

Race bike got it’s tyres, it started too. Ready To Race.

Fixed my shaver charger, “fixed”

Flat battery,

Fecked rectifier

Soldered all in again top job.

15 years plus that stone has been in my knee, so nice to have it gone.

naughty

Dog has a help out spot, but only when the weather is nice.

Runner is dead, wibbly handling isn’t as fun when you have no one to race!

Engine will live again in a decent go kart frame

Got that front end on!

feck it these clocks weight tons! steering loads lighter, that may have to do with different trail figures and the lighter wheel

Very cracked

shed upgrade!

Rg125f Disassemble

Literally dug this out on my hols, gotta get a better hobby.

Made it to the trailer, tyres keep air in them!

Engine so not healthy

Tank, yeah that was fucked ten years ago when i put it in that ditch.

Made it to my house!

On the plus side, the exhaust does not have any holes it shouldn’t have!

Piston, well it’s still there..

Total restoration,

horrible isn’t it? not the spider he’s cool.

CDI seems to be one of the good ones. 32900-19d90, well it was quick enough when i did run.

Do i need half this shit back here?

I don’t need all this shit in the airbox

๐Ÿ™ revg250 34mm carb is dead

So dead.

alrite boss

that was cracked years ago too, lost the head bolt and the vibes cracked it.

this tank is magnificent

Gonna install a PC in to it, of course.

Lighter rear, more may come of, gotta save weight this bitch weight 125KG dry!

I broke no bolts getting to this part, no Suzuki bolts anyway.

This is the only damage i can find after the crash that put this bike into the hedge for ten years, bike is over built.

And we’re stuck, swingarm axle needs heat and a much bigger hammer to move it,

rescued the petrol cap!

Spare part hunt turned up 5 cylinders, at least two of them are 22d0 vj22 cylinders, those should be the best for power.

Many carbs, i think two are 32mm carbs and the rest 34mm, didn’t have time to measure.

GSX600F front wheel, took it off for another project, but might do for this.

GSX600F disc’s, not to my taste but probably the right diameter .

GSX600F calipers also should fit, may fit them because they are smaller/lighter

SO many ideas to tune the engine, think i can get a solid 30bhp at the rear wheel, most of the ideas revolve around better head and squish, better cooling the piston so i can run more advance.

will post what i do here, when i decide what i want to do!

TerriCab #2

Well more stuff done. Stuck some plastic feet on, a chopped up chopping board, on the base of the cab and got it upright with out breaking anything!

The comp is ready ish to go in, still playing with wake-on-lan

Super sticky tyres from japan for next years nifty fifty, bt-39-ss, the ss is the important bit!

Got a real keyboard, replaceable cap and switches, metal case, blinky leds, but more importantly really loud blue switches!

TerriCab

TerriCab, nice name for the latest project, been a while with babies, work and winter(s) so lets get back to doing a few things.

first the backlog, Aixam is still not up and running, seems to be a dead ESC.

so i obviously ordered an upgrade! course the batteries are dead now, so it’s still sitting there.

Cbr got fresh tyres, badly needed

need more free days to get the chicken strips off

nifty fifty 2018 went a head, great race, except the bit where it got called early and i didn’t get to go out. ๐Ÿ™

and on to TerriCab, i do have some other pictures, it’s the basic shape of a zaxxon cab, can i find those pics? nah.

so lets skip a few step and head to the feet design! MDF soaks up any moisture so putting it straight onto the garage concrete floor is not a good idea, wheels are the best solution, but they cost money, i’ll use a random feed plastic feed bag as a damp proof membrane and two other bits of normal wood

is any of the random pots of paint left around the house non-water based?, no but this can of stone chip seals things nice.

gotta buy a super cheap plastic chopping board to go underneath the feet again, should slide around great.

omg work done!

Great weather for pulling the runner 180 out of the shed and trashing it.

IMG_20160423_152421

Pity the runners water pump disagreed, typical.

IMG_20160428_115149

รขโ€šยฌ99.99 inverter welder from lidl, always wanted one, fingers crossed it’s not shite.

IMG_20160509_140725

See that roll bar? entirely full of water. holes on top, no holes on the bottom.

IMG_20160404_111755

Did get the tub off finally, all things are in a terrible state, so what ever happens next landrover types will be offended anyway!

IMG_20160510_162030

all quiet

Ted got a go-kart, we’re investigating engines for it.

IMG_20160316_164115

Brakes for the cbr turned up,

IMG_20160321_163849

Ass of the 109″ got unbolted, need extra hands and better weather to finish it off,

IMG_20160331_163022

Cbr spent it’s first night in the shed, very wet this weekend, poor bike is feeling quite tired now.

IMG_20160331_190626

Arcade software is getting quite polished now, played bomberman too much already, thumb is killing me, land rover rebuild project get priority (because baby + winter) but i’ll have to squeeze in time for shed/arcade woodworking projects.

project stop ya bastard. or cbr6 f2 brake upgrade.

ok cbr upgrade plans have taken a wild jump off the tracks and settled right here:

vfr400 calipers (same as an rc30!)

gsx600f discs.

gsxr750 wheel.

and some bracket, spacers and swearing.

First i was still looking at fitting some 90mm c2c yamaha calipers, the bracket would not have been pretty but it would stop great with sumitomo’s/blue dots or even the yzf750 six pots!

IMG_20160307_140401 IMG_20160307_140409

scouting about i found the bros 400 frontend just sitting there

IMG_20160307_144515

that caliper has a scored piston and a broken bleed nipple, but see how it bolts up to the fork leg?

IMG_20160307_145342

on the cbr leg, a flat plate behind the caliper and the lugs on the legs, should perfectly level the caliper on the new discs. but theory and practice and all that jazz. I’ve ordered the calipers anyway off ebay, รขโ€šยฌ85 most expensive part so far. we’ll see what braided hoses cost..

IMG_20160307_144926

I do like the logo hidden on the inside.

IMG_20160307_144947

Pic’s of the new wheel and discs soon, will probably paint everything strange colours.

Replace ma cbr6? Nvar!

Cbr is not looking good, i think its about to finally get that brake upgrade i’ve been thinking about for that last 9 years.

IMG_20160228_123303

Which brake upgrade is most troubling, 276mm floating, 295mm solid, 310mm floating, 4-pot opposed or 3-pot sliding?

Also the fuel screw got mangalated, this is the spare bank of carbs that are also reluctant to give up a non busted jet.

IMG_20160228_123336

clean air filter, clean bits of the bike no will ever see, adjust the other fuel screws, got for a spin anyway.

IMG_20160228_132443

perv’d over this for bit just before i went out.

IMG_20160228_133403

in other news, blindly waving my soldering iron at a MHL to HDMI converter turned out well.

IMG_20160227_121155

really it works perfectly!

IMG_20160227_121251

Also got shed.

IMG_20160225_173946 IMG_20160303_091541 IMG_20160303_091518

shed needs wiring and panelling and an arcade machine. arcade machine first because working ass backward is more fun.
